Smarter and Safer Parking Enforcement

For this year’s CPA Conference we want to highlight Canadian cities and how they’re using smart enforcement technology to solve real challenges in mobility and public safety.

✔ Reduce congestion and improve flow in growing urban areas
✔ Automate enforcement in timed zones and high-traffic corridors

✔ Free up officers for community-focused work

✔ Make school zones and pedestrian areas safer for everyone

We have success stories from Richmond, Port Coquitlam, and Kitchener, backed by data, strategy, and the experts who made it happen. You’ll have the chance to speak directly with some of the professionals behind these projects and discover how to bring similar results to your city.

Two Cities Driving Smarter Enforcement

Our partners from Port Coquitlam and Richmond take the stage at CPA 2025 to share how they’re using gtechna solutions for increased operation efficiency.

Both municipalities are leading the way in innovation, each with a distinct path:

Port Coquitlam

Port Coquitlam increased coverage downtown to address issues caused by accelerated urban growth and limited curb space. They use vehicle-mounted scanners and real-time alerts for a hybrid enforcement model that has streamlined operations and laid the groundwork for future automation.

Richmond

In Richmond, transformation is underway. A phased rollout of curb digitization and LPR integration is setting a solid foundation for future expansion. Their collaborative, cross-vendor approach eliminates silos, simplifies implementation, and delivers visible benefits even before full automation is complete.

Update: Kitchener Continues to Innovate in Parking Enforcement

After winning the CPA Innovation in Parking Operations and Programs Award, The City of Kitchener continues to push forward with smart, scalable enforcement.

Their phased rollout of fully automated LPR and Ticket-by-Mail has expanded beyond school zones to fire routes, no-standing areas, and paid lots. This provides better coverage, fewer complaints, and a 30% increase in parking revenue.

Hear directly from Kitchener officials in our recorded Learning Lab, where they share their approach to rolling out AI-powered parking and the results so far.
